Program Overview
Southern Union State Community College is committed to expanding access to Dual Enrollment opportunities for high school students. Through institutional support and partnership with the Southern Union Foundation, a limited number of Dual Enrollment Tuition Waivers and Scholarships are available to assist eligible students with the cost of college coursework while enrolled in high school.
This program is designed to provide students with a strong academic foundation, early exposure to college-level learning, and increased college and career readiness.
Award Information
Students may be considered for the following funding opportunities, subject to eligibility and available funding:
- Institutional Tuition Waiver – Covers tuition for one (1) academic Dual Enrollment course per semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer).
- STEM Scholarship – Covers tuition and eligible fees for one (1) qualifying mathematics or science course.
- Career Technical Education (CTE) Scholarship – Covers tuition and eligible fees for up to two (2) qualifying Career Technical Education courses.
Awards are limited and are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while funding is available. Funding availability may vary by semester and program.
Student Responsibility
Students are responsible for any expenses not covered by the tuition waiver or scholarship, including but not limited to:
- ACCS Enhancement Fee, Reserve Fee
- Textbooks
- Course materials
- Supplies
- Specialized equipment
- Course-specific fees not covered by the funding source

Acceptance of funding does not eliminate a student's responsibility for any remaining balance.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
✔ Be enrolled in the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade
✔ Maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative unweighted high school GPA
✔ Be admitted to Southern Union State Community College
✔ Possess an active Southern Union Student ID (A#)
✔ Meet all placement score requirements and course prerequisites
✔ Submit all required Dual Enrollment documentation
✔ Remain eligible under Alabama Community College System Dual Enrollment policies
