    SOUTHERN UNION STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE
  • To be eligible for enrollment, you must provide at least one of the following forms of acceptable ID.

    • Alabama Driver’s License
    • Alabama Non-Driver’s ID
    • Alabama Photo Voter ID CardAlabama
    • Employer Issued ID Card (verification of employment from an Alabama employer, such as a paycheck stub or written verification letter, may also suffice)
      Employee
    • Photo ID from any level of government within the state of Alabama (state, county, municipality, board, or other entity of the state)
    • Student Photo ID from a public or private college, university, or high school within the state of Alabama
    • Photo ID Card issued by Alabama Department of Corrections (DOC)
    • Referral by a Career Center (For our programs in border counties only. For example: if you live in West Point, GA and have a Georgia Driver's License, you may use your Georgia Driver's License to enroll in the program and take the GED test- but only if you register with an Alabama Career Center and obtain a referral letter from them for the program).
    • If you are 16 or 17 years of age, additional documentation will be required.

    Upload your results by completing step 1 or 2  below. 

    1. Take a screen shot of your results page and upload the screen shot,

    2. Once you answer the questions and see the initial results page,

    • Click on “Printer Friendly Version.”
    • Type in your name. 
    • Click yes, add my name. 
    • When the next window pops up, click "print window" in the upper right corner. 
    • On the drop down menu for the printer, choose "save as PDF"
    • Save the document to your desktop by naming it with your first and last name.

    • Create your account.
    • Take the Assessment with 60 questioins.
    • After completing the assessment, choose Download Full Results.
    • After the results download, your computer will open the file (most likely a PDF) to your desktop (it may appear as a small window to the bottom left of your screen or it may be in your download folder).
    • On a cell phone, follow the same directions but you may have to save the file to your "Files" folder to be able to upload it.

  • ENROLLMENT POLICY 

    ATTENDANCE

    Students enrolled in the Career Center are expected to attend all scheduled classes. Instructors will keep daily records of student attendance.
    Students with excessive absences may be separated from the program.
    If unable to attend classes regularly, students should request to be withdrawn from the program.

    STANDARDS OF PROGRESS

    All students are expected to make academic progress. Any student who attends class, but who does not demonstrate effort and is not academically productive, may be separated from the program. Students will NOT be allowed to be idle during instruction time.


    STUDENT NONCOMPLIANCE

    Students may be separated for noncompliance. It is expected that students will work cooperatively with the instructor, staff members, and with other class members.

    INTERNET ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY

    Use of the computer and Internet provides great educational benefits to students. Unfortunately, however, some material accessible via the Internet may contain items that are illegal, defamatory, or potentially offensive to some people. Access to the Internet is given as a privilege to students who agree to act in a considerate and responsible manner. We require that ALL students read the following rules for acceptable behavior while utilizing the computer in the classroom. Students are responsible for good behavior on the Internet. The student agrees to the following:

    • I will NOT play games or use the computer resources for nonacademic purposes.
    • I will NOT violate any copyright laws.
    • I will use e-mail and chat rooms only when authorized by the instructor for academicpurposes.
    • I will not access, write, transmit, or send unethical, illegal, immoral, inappropriate, obscene, orquestionable information of any type.
    • I will not download files without permission from the instructor.
    • I will not intentionally download, upload, or execute viruses.
    • I will not corrupt, destroy, delete, or manipulate system data.
    • I will not change the settings of the machine without the permission of the instructor.
    • I will not use the computer to harass, insult, or attack others.
    • I will not intentionally damage computers, computer systems, or computer networks.
    • I will not use another’s password.
    • I will not trespass in another’s folders, work, or files.
    • I will not intentionally waste limited resources, including through the use of “chain letters” and messages broadcasted to mailing lists or individuals.
    • I will not employ the network for commercial purposes.
    • I will not reveal the personal address or phone number of myself or any other person without permission from the instructor.
      I understand the use of the computers is a privilege. Violation of the rules described above will result in the loss of computer privileges and could result in expulsion and / or criminal charges. I have read, or had explained to me, and understand the above stated rules. I agree to comply with said rules. I also understand that any user having a history of problems may be denied access to the computer resources.

     

    CODE OF CONDUCT
    This Code of Conduct is established to assure that all students enrolled in the Career Center are provided with a barrier free learning environment. Students are expected to be self-disciplined, to be able to work independently, and to be sufficiently motivated to begin and continue lessons without constant monitoring from the instructor.
    GENERAL RULES

    • Students should arrive promptly and remain in class for the entire time unless otherwise excused.
    • Students are to sign in upon arrival and sign out when they leave. Your instructor cannot sign you in or out.
    • Southern Union is a smoke free campus. Students may not smoke on any campus properties. 
    • Each class has a scheduled break time. Students are expected to be in the classroom at all times otherthan the designated break time. Eating will be limited to that break time only.
    • Use of the telephone on the premises should be reserved for emergencies only. Routine outgoing and incoming calls are prohibited. The use of cell phones, or other electronic devices is prohibited unless approved by the instructor prior to use.
    • No children are allowed in the classroom.
    • No visitors are allowed during instructional time.
    • Students must be fully clothed at all times.
    • Students are expected to cooperate with the teacher at all times. Obstruction or disruption of teaching will not be tolerated. Failure to comply with authority may result in suspension from classes.
    • Instructional materials may NOT be removed from the classroom without permission. The materials may be checked out through an instructor.

    The following actions may result in a student’s suspension from the Career Center for a period up to 90 days. A second violation may result in permanent dismissal from the program.

    • Destruction, damage, or misuse of College, public, or private property.
    • Disruptive behavior such as fighting, cursing, and use of foul language.
    • Physical abuse, verbal threats of violence, intimidation, and physical or mental harassment.
    • Inappropriate sexual conduct.
    • Drinking alcoholic beverages or using any type of mind altering drugs before or during class. Use of controlled substances, such as drugs and alcohol, is prohibited. If a student is suspected of being under the influenceof these substances, the student may be sent home.
    • Disruptive or disorderly conduct that interferes with the rights and opportunities of others.


    The following actions may result in automatic suspension or expulsion from the Southern Union State Community College Career Center.

    • Possession of firearms or weapons of any kind whether in class or a personal vehicle on school property.
    • Use of a weapon, or any other instrument, with the intent to cause physical harm to another individual.
    • Possession of any drug defined as illegal under local, state, or federal law.
    • Fighting at the instructional site.
      Law enforcement will be summoned when deemed necessary in each of these circumstances.

    Student Rights:

    • Instruction at no cost to the student
    • Evaluation for appropriate placement
    • Trained and qualified staff members eager to assist you in meeting your goals
    • A program of study designed to meet your educational needs
    • Educational materials that are at your level and match your learning style
    • Equal opportunity; no discrimination based on race, religion, nationality, sex, sexual preference, age, or disability
    • A suitable and accessible learning environment
    • Reasonable accommodations, modifications, or auxiliary aids for learning and testing if you have documented disabilities
    • Confidential records shared only with your written consent


    Student Responsibilities:

    • Take an active part in planning, learning, and tracking progress in your plan of study
    • Attend class consistently in order to meet goals in a timely manner
      Arrive promptly and remain in class for the entire time unless otherwise excused
    • Tell the instructor when you need to be absent.
    • Sign in upon arrival. Do not sign out until you are ready to leave.
      Cooperate with the teacher at all times.
    • Ask for help if you have a special need. Provide records about your diagnosed disability in order to access appropriate testing and classroom accommodations.
    • Respect the rights of other students. Report conduct of other students, instructors, or visitors to the program that disturb you.
    • Be honest; do not cheat.
    • Keep your study area clean; check with the instructor about eating areas.
  • STUDENT RELEASE and AGREEMENT

    I hereby give my permission to the Southern Union State Community College Adult Education Department to: Use my image and/or a recording of my voice on their Facebook page or other print/advertising media, or to otherwise record my name, voice and/or image and likeness for such use. I understand that: Any images or recordings may be used for non-commercial advertisement and or educational purposes, which may include, but not be limited to, distribution by print, internet, or digital media and open-circuit broadcast, closed-circuit, and/or cable television transmission within or outside of the State of Alabama. There will be no financial or other remuneration for use of my image or likeness, voice or a recording thereof. I hereby release the Adult Education Department from any liability resulting from or connected with the publication of such work. I further understand that my permission or consent may be rescinded; however, in order for the revocation of permission/consent to be effective, it must be made in writing and said revocation will not affect the publication or work that has already been produced.

    By signing below, I hereby provide permission for my data to be exchanged with other education and workforce agencies for the purpose of verifying outcomes, performance, and credentials related to postsecondary education/training and employment or other services that are provided by Adult Education. If I am a recipient of SNAP (formerly known as the Food Stamp program), I am aware that participation in the A-RESET program is voluntary and will not affect my SNAP benefits, but full participation may increase my chances of finding employment or getting a better job. I also understand and agree to the program policies and procedures, and would like to enroll in Adult Education classes.
