• ADN MOBILITY PROGRAM APPLICATION

    Notice: Admission requirements and procedures may change without prior notice. Applications from students who are currently enrolled in the Nursing Program at SUSCC will not be considered. A new application must be submitted by the applicant for each admission cycle.

  • If documents are missing from your student account, please contact admissions@suscc.edu. All documents MUST be on file by the application deadline date or your application will not be considered.

  • PROGRAM OVERVIEW

  • ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    Admission to the nursing program is competitive, and the number of students is limited by the number of faculty and clinical facilities available. Meeting minimal requirements does not guarantee acceptance.  Applicants who do not meet all minimal requirements will not be considered for program admission.

  • MINIMUM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    1. Non-nursing applicants to have an AAS degree and current licensure or certification as an Emergency Medical Services - Paramedic, Medical Assistant Technologist, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technologist, Surgical Technologist; and for Practical Nurses to have a certificate and current unencumbered or non-restricted license as a Practical Nurse in Alabama.
    2. One year of full time work experience with direct patient care in field of study documented on company letterhead and signed by HR or employment administrator.
    3. Proof of CNA course completion for non-nursing applicants (certification not required)
    4. Completion of prerequisite general education courses with a minimum grade of “C”. See listing under Curriculum.
    5. Unconditional admission to Southern Union and in good standing / clear academic status with the college.
    6. Completed application for the nursing program by published deadline.
    7. Minimum 2.0 GPA at Southern Union if previously enrolled. Transfer students must enter the College on clear status.
    8. Minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA of completed nursing required academic core courses from a regionally accredited institution.
    9. Official score from ACT National or ACT Residual with a minimum composite score of 18.
    10. Meet the essential functions required for nursing.
    11. Official transcripts in the Records office from ALL post-secondary institutions attended, along with high school transcript.

  • GPA REQUIREMENTS

    CUMULATIVE GPA:  A minimum college cumulative GPA of 2.0 is required.  Students without prior college work must have a minimum 2.5 GPA from 12th grade coursework OR GED completion.

  • NURSING ACADEMIC CORE GPA 

    A minimum GPA of 2.5 on any completed nursing academic core courses is required.  All academic core courses that are required for the nursing program may be completed either prior to concurrently while in the nursing program.

    Please select the final grade posted on your transcripts for each of the following courses.  For courses not taken, please leave field set to 'please select'.

  • Official transcripts form EACH college attended must be received (via mail or electronically) by the Registrar's office in Wadley before the application deadline.  Send to: SUSCC Records Office, P.O. Box 1000, Wadley, AL 36276 OR electronically.

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Students admitted into the Nursing Program must maintain the ability to meet all physical and mental essential functions for nursing with or without reasonable accommodations.  After admission into the program, students will be required to obtain medical verification of their ability to meet all essential functions in order to participate in the nursing program.

  • APPLICATION POINTS WORKSHEET

    Applicants that meet the minimum admission requirements are individually evaluated and awared points based on their scholarly merits.  

    This worksheet will allow you to calculate your total applicant score.  All entries will be verified by SUSCC Health Science Admissions for accuracy.

    A total applicant score of 58 points may be achieved.  Students are ranked and admitted into the nursing program based on their total applicant score.  If a tie should exist between applicants, the core GPA will determine the ranking.

  • SECTION A:  ACT COMPOSITE SCORE 

    Official score from ACT National or Residual with a minimum composite of 18 is required. Students with an ACT below 18 will not be considered for admission into the nursing program.  There is no time limit for when the test was taken.

    It is the applicant's responsiblity to verify that their ACT score is on file.  ACT test scores submitted to the Records Office after the application deadline will not be used for ranking or for admission purposes.  The highest composite ACT score on file will be used.

    You can access your submitted ACT score(s) online through your mysuscc account.  

    SUSCC does not utilize or accept ACT superscores.

  • Based on your reported ACT score, you do not meet the minimal nursing application requirements. Please do not submit an application with an ACT score below 18.

  • SECTION B:  NURSING CORE 

    You will be awarded points toward your application based on your final course grade for select nursing core courses: 

    NOTE: You should consult with an Academic Advisor regarding the transferability of courses taken at another institution.  Course work from an institution that is not nationally or regionally accredited will not be accepted.

  • SECTION C:  COURSEWORK COMPLETED AT SUSCC 

    You will be awarded up to three (3) points for either certificates / programs completed at SUSCC OR completion of twelve (12) nursing core credit hours at SUSCC with a "C" or higher.

  • SECTION D: EARNED DEGREE AND NEW STUDENT

     

  • EARNED DEGREE

    Four (4) points will be awarded if a student has an Associate Degree ot higher awarded from a regionally accredited institution.  The degree must be posted on official transcript when application submitted.

  • NEW STUDENTS

    Three (3) points will be awarded to nursing applicants who have never enrolled in nursing at any college.

  • ELIGIBILITY FOR LICENSURE

    Legal requirements for licensure in the State of Alabama are listed in the Alabama Board of Nursing Administrative Code. Alabama Board of Nursing determines the eligibility for licensure based on the applicant’s response to certain questions. It is important that you understand that successful completion of the nursing program does not guarantee eligibility to take the NCLEX exam. The Board of Nursing may deny an individual permission to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) based on an investigation. Applicants do not need to respond to the questions for application to the program, but must be aware that when applying for licensure they must answer the questions honestly or risk denial of application for licensure.
