The Alabama Community College System has expanded the allowable use of Career and Technical Education Dual Enrollment scholarships to include several STEM-related (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) academic courses. This scholarship is provided by a grant from the Governor's Office of Workforce Development to give area students a jump start in several high demand careers. It is currently available to dual enrollment students who wish to enroll in a STEM-related academic course (subject to funding availability) during the 2025 Spirng semester.
- This Dual Enrollment scholarship covers the cost of tuition and fees for ONE (1) STEM-related academic course in Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, Math, Physical Science, or Physics.
- The scholarship does not cover additional fees associated with the courses, such as proctor fees and book fees.
- Students that receive a scholarship for a STEM-related academic course are not required to enroll in a Career & Technical program to be eligible.
- The deadline to apply for the scholarship is Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
To be considered for the scholarship program, a student must:
- Be in the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade
- Have a minimum cumulative (unweighted) high school GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
- Obtain a Southern Union student ID number (A-number) by submitting an online Application for General Admission
- Meet the Placement Test Score requirements and prerequisites for the course that they wish to enroll in
